Myrtle, sacred to the goddesses Aphrodite, was used by the ancient Greeks to encircle the head of the winners in games, solidifying the plant as a symbol of glory. The tradition of Mirto Liqueur, famous on the island of Sardinia, arrived by way of bandits from Gallura who took it from nearby Corsica. Vicario’s Mirto is produced using estate-grown myrtle berries macerated in neutral spirit which is then shipped to South Carolina where it is pressed, filtered, and bottled.
