Twomey started off as a pet project from Silver Oak. In fact, this was such an endearing venture that the inaugural 2002 vintage was made at the Silver Oak Napa Valley Winery in Oakville, and current Chairman & CEO David R. Duncan and former Silver Oak Winemaker Daniel Barron doing the punchdowns. The current 2021 vintage is comprised of Pinot Noir from six noteworthy vineyards across the Russian River Valley, a region known as one of the very best locales in the world for growing this noble grape.
The 2021 season yielded a favorable weather pattern combined with compact clusters and small berry size, leading to wines of great concentration and balance. The warm daytime temperatures during harvest were buffered in the Russian River Valley by the hallmark fog influence from the Pacific Ocean. This cooling effect preserved acidity in the berries and gives the vintage a fresh and lively profile. Very early on during fermentation, it was clear that 2021 was a vintage to remember-one defined by concentrated flavors with bright acidity and wines of harmony and balance.
Typically we sell this wine for $56.98, but as we said earlier, we have been able to secure several cases at a very attractive price. Aged entire in French oak barrels, of which 27% were new, the Twomey Pinot Noir sports an attractive medium ruby color followed by aromas of rose petals, clove, black cherry, toasty oak, and subtle spice notes. This gregarious wine is medium- to full-bodied on the palate, with flavors of black cherry, black raspberry maraschino cherries, forest floor, black tea, and vanilla. Juicy, forward, and with a long-lasting finish, this wine is fantastic, and should please any California Pinot Noir lover!
