Though the vast majority of the Turley wines are single vineyard designates, Juvenile is actually composed of a variety of young vines that have been replanted in several of their most heralded old vine sites. The vines that make up Juvenile range in age from about 6-25 years, and they pull from 18 of their best vineyards across California, including Hayne, Ueberroth, Pesenti, Salvador, Vineyard 101, Fredericks and Kirschenmann. The new vines are tagged when replanted, so as not to mix the brand-new vine with its much older neighbors, then these young vines are picked separately and make a distinct wine.
Most of the vineyards used by Turley are farmed organically and/or dry-farmed. By farming organically and focusing on old vine vineyards of these varieties, Turley aims to both create and preserve California's unique winemaking culture.
Not only is this one of the more affordable Turley Zinfandels, but it has also received wonderful praise from the critics!
WINE SPECTATOR 93 POINTS - "A jammy bomb of fruit, with cherry pie and ripe raspberry flavors accented with toasty spice and briar notes as this energetic Zin zips along the zesty finish. Drink now through 2032."
ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 91 POINTS - "The 2022 Zinfandel Juvenile is a remarkably expressive and over-performing iteration of this wine, composed of young vines from nearly three dozen sites across California. The nose combines sweet red fruits, roasted plums and leather with autumnal, spice-driven accents. The palate is medium-bodied with detailed layers of easygoing, succulent fruits. The finish is welcomely dustier and more structured than the nose and palate would suggest and concludes with a bright spine of quenching acidity."
