Last year, the "G3" Cabernet from Goose Ridge was so darn delicious for the money that we made it our December "Wine of the Month". Now this year, the same winery has done it again, and this new label from them has earned the prize of being this month's "Wine of the Month 2!"
Goose Ridge has access to some of the best vineyards from hillside portions in the Goose Gap region of the Columbia Valley. One of America's newest AVAs, Goose Gap has gained some serious attention for its quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec. The AVA takes its name from a saddle of land known as "Goose Gap," which gets its name for being a common pathway for migratory waterfowl. Most of the vineyards are planted on a north/northeast aspect, which provides for a long, even growing season, which results in complex wines with a dazzling array of aromas and flavors.
The 2019 Truth Be Told Cabernet is a final blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, and 6% Malbec, aged for 15 months in French oak barrels. This wine comes roaring out of the gate with an intoxicating nose of vividly bright fruits, wet stone and hints of tobacco. A well-structured wine with juicy acidity is balanced by tiers of rich ripe berries, plum and licorice. A touch of new oak adds texture while layers of shaved chocolate and ripe tannins meld together to create a long, luxurious finish.
