One of the best red wine values from California's Central Coast keeps on giving. Not only does this wine over-deliver for the price, but it has become one of our perennial "go-to" picks, no matter what time of year!

Château de Beaucastel is one of the most prominent producers in France's Chateauneuf-du-Pape region, and was even named as Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year in 1991. The owners of Beaucastel teamed up with their importer, Robert Hass, and searched up and down California, seeking the appropriate combination of soil and sun so they may produce California's best examples of southern Rhône varietals and Chateauneuf-du-Pape style blends. The partners chose a 120-acre property in the hills of westside Paso Robles for its similarities to Chateauneuf-du-Pape: limestone soils, favorable climate, and rugged terrain.

Tablas Creek's "Patelin" series of wines is very unique. There are several vineyards in the Paso Robles region that were planted with cuttings sourced from Tablas Creek's own selections of budwood. Some of these vineyards had unclaimed grapes, and since the quality was high, Tablas Creek stepped in and began to produce this "hometown" bottling.

The "Patelin de Tablas Rouge" is a Paso Robles take on a classic Rhône blend: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Counoise. The wine incorporates fruit from several of the top Rhône vineyards in Paso Robles, each vineyard selected for its quality. Like many red wines from the Rhône Valley, it is based on the dark fruit, mineral and spice of Syrah. To that Syrah, the winery incorporates the brightness and fresh acidity of Grenache, the structure and meatiness of Mourvèdre, and a small addition of Counoise for complexity.

With a 92-point score from Antonio Galloni's Vinous Media, this wine has become synonymous with both quality and value! While the quality of the 2023 vintage is high, yields were lower, which means this wine is already on the verge of selling out before another vintage is released... so buy this while you can!

ANTONIO GALLONI'S VINOUS MEDIA 92 POINTS - "The 2023 Patelin de Tablas is incredibly fresh. From the glass, the 2023 cascades with a zesty blend of savory herbs, olives, earth tones and crushed stones. This is silky smooth with a burst of brisk acidity complementing sour cherry-berry fruits and hints of tart citrus. The finish is long-lasting, with gentle tannins that gradually fade, leaving behind lingering hints of violet pastilles and lavender. This balances ripe fruit with structure and an energetic persona to give a truly spellbinding impression."
