Speyburn 10
Cheap scotches are not scarce but cheap GOOD ones are. I use the old Value vs Quality meter to gauge whether or not to buy. As advertised here, the butterscotch and toffee flavors are noticeable but not alone in their influence. A whiff of anise and citrus completes the main profile pretty much, but one should not exert too much cerebral effort on such a "lowly" pour. At a mere 10 years of aging, one would expect a very green or harsh taste but I do not detect that. Nor is it a thin confection meant to drag in the noobs by being bland and inoffensive. I think it has a righteous place in the world and as long as it is available I will be a customer. Friends who are totally wedded to Bourbon might be turned by a dram of Speyburn 10 it's that good, providing they are willing to stray.
