PALACIOS CAMINS DEL PRIORAT
JAMES SUCKLING.COM - "Hints of stewed herbs to the nicely baked cherries, strawberries and some hibiscus and dark spices. Fruity, medium-bodied on the palate with fine-grained tannins and a fresh, medium-long finish."
It’s perhaps the most sleek and modern wine from one of Spain’s superstar winemakers, Alvaro Palacios, who comes from the well-respected Palacios Remondo wine family in Rioja. While studying enology in Bordeaux, he worked under superstar Jean-Pierre Moueix at Chateau Pétrus. Inspired to make his own great wines, he chose the secluded region of Priorat, which was an old wine region that had been going through a rennaissance. In the 1990s and 2000s he built up a collection of great vineyards, and with that, released more wines; Finca Dofi’, L’Ermita, Les Terraces, and Gratallops have all become wellrespected names on the international stage. With more vineyards, he found he could tighten up the selection for the top wines, thereby improving them, but also leaving enough left over for a high quality ‘everday’ wine. That’s how Camins del Priorat was created!
This Priorat is made in a drink-me-now style that combines a vibrant, ripe fruit and floral profile with a medium-full weight and satiny, vinous texture!
ORGANICALLY FARMED
40% Garnacha, 20% Carinena, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, plus others.
LA PANTA TEMPRANILLO
WINE ENTHUSIAST 92 POINTS, BEST BUY - "Deep-ruby-red in the glass, this wine has a bouquet of blackberry, purple plum and clove. It is soft at first sip, followed by a sensation of fullness as plush tannins fill the palate. Flavors of black cherry, cassis, caramel, anise and a touch of dried thyme linger on the taste buds."
From around 3000 feet above sea level, this is Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro's appetizer red. Briefly fermented in stainless steel, then aged for just 6 months in French and American oak.
Arzuaga La Planta is clean, bright, high intensity and cherry red in colour with a cardinal rim. High aromatic intensity, with a great variety of fruits, where the aromas of red fruits stand out and the acid strawberry and cherry predominate and along with these the notes of scrubland and resins, mineral touches and roasted aromas typical of its stay in the barrel. Balance and harmony between the taste components, we are faced with a structured, meaty wine that always amazes for its smoothness and freshness typical of the La Planta wine.
