This is an impressive value from star South African winemaker, Duncan Savage, and mostly comes from mature bush-trained vines in Stellenbosch. It has a ripe, mixed citrus character, with accenting top notes of orange blossom and toasted nut. The mouthfeel has a generous weight and sauve texture, given life by Sauvignon Blanc's zesty acidity and shaped by a firm "crushed rock minality." It finishes with a lightly unctuous, but dry, with a delicious saline edge. It's a seriously great wine for the price!
"This bright white is light on its feet, with a nice mix of Asian pear, grapefruit pith and white blossom notes that show an underpinning of minerally stone and saline character, ending with a silky finish." - Alison Napjus, WINE SPECTATOR
"In 2019 Duncan [Savage] happened to stumble upon a 32 year old block of bush vine Sauvignon Blanc in Stellenbosch. The elevation, wind and vine age all pointed in the right direction and after a bit of experimentation, the Salt River Sauvignon Blanc label was born.
" Fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel, concrete eggs, and older casks." - Broadbent Selections
