85% Nebbiolo (aka Spanna) & 15% Vespolina

Vibrant, with juicy rapberry and floral topnotes like violet and rose, lightly balsam, and ending dry and amaro-herb finish, this is a fantastic example of Ghemme's distinctive wines. Driven by Nebbiolo, it has a bit of its softer - but also vibrant, floral and herbal - partner, Vespolina. Ghemme's place in the cooler foothills of the Alps distinguishes this place from the more famous Nebbiolo regions of Barolo and Barbaresco to the south, giving the wines a sleeker fruit weight and more mineral in feel. give this an hour in the decanter and pair with lamb or Persian fesenjan stew!

The grapes for this cuvée are sourced from the "Chioso dei Pomi" vineyard in Alto Piemonte's Ghemme wine region (near Gattinara). The plot is approximately three hectares in size and the vines have a south-southwest exposure. The ultimate blend of grapes for the Ghemme is 85% Nebbiolo and 15% Vespolina. Harvest is by hand. The wine is aged in large barrels of Slavonian oak for the first twelve months after harvest and then is racked into smaller five hectoliter barrels for an additional eighteen months. The various parts of the wine are assembled and blended together in the spring of the third year. After bottling, the wine is aged in bottle at least nine additional months before release.
