JEB DUNNUCK 95 POINTS - "The 2021 Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard has a semi-opaque ruby hue (as do all of these 2021s from Roar) to go with medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of redcurrant, black raspberry, and mulberry-like fruit as well as lots of classic Pinot Noir black tea, underbrush, and spicy aromatics. This beauty has the most opulence and exuberance of all the Pinot Noirs on the palate and has a great mid-palate, lots of fruit and texture, and a great finish. It's the most classically California-styled 2021 in the lineup and is going to put a smile on your face any time over the coming 5-7 years."
ANTONIO GALLONI 94 POINTS- "The Franscioni family traces their lineage back to the early 1900s, making them one of the historic families in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Gary Franscioni and his wife, Rosella, developed many of the key sites in the appellation, some of them with long-time friend Gary Pisoni. Today, the younger generation is involved, guaranteeing a bright future. The Franscionis draw on several sites for their ROAR wines. Two thousand twenty-one is a vintage that offers both quality and volume here, a welcome change from 2020. Yields were 3.5 tons per acre, on the generous side. The wines saw a bit longer time on the skins than usual. Mostly, though, I am struck by the degree to which these wines capture the essence of place."
"The 2021 Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard is laced with bright red-toned fruit, dried herbs, rose petals, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco. This is an especially savory Pinot in the range. The aromatics are quite alluring today, but the wine is much less expressive on the palate, where it feels very tight at this stage."
