"The fine estate of Roagna has long roots in the commune of Barbaresco, having been started very early in the twentieth century by Vincenzo Roagna... Today the property is run by Luca Roagna, the fifth generation of the family... The style of the estate’s wines has been carefully passed down through all five generations of Roagna family, with the wines made in a very traditional and classic style. These are deep, complex and structured wines that are built to age and handsomely reward cellaring... fermentation still includes a full sixty day maceration before aging in large, Slavonian oak botti for anywhere from three to five years (depending on the quality of the vintage) prior to bottling. The wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered, and often the estate will also hold back the wines for several years of further bottle aging prior to release." - BEAUNE IMPORTS
KERIN O'KEEFE 96 POINTS - "Aromas of wild rose, eucalyptus and star anise form the enticing nose on the fantastic 2017 Pajè Vecchie Viti from Roagna. It’s linear and focused, with an almost knife-like precision that delineates juicy red berry, licorice, dried mint and a hint of hazelnut. It shows great tension, finesse and structure. WINE ADVOCATE 95 POINTS - "Roagna has two bottlings from this site in Barbaresco, one made with younger vines and one from older vines. The 2017 Barbaresco Pajè Vecchie Viti comes from the more precious old vines that are all over 50 years old. This limited selection results in a slim production of 2,850 bottles. This expression does indeed reveal a greater sense of depth and detail with wild cherry, dark rose and orange peel. The bouquet is nuanced and fine, and the tannins just melt away over a long finish. Roagna excels in the difficult vintages, and this bottle is a prime example."
