In 1962, Ridge made its first Monte Bello bottling, and has championed single-vineyard winemaking ever since. Ridge makes monumental ageworthy wines. In fact, last year we cracked open a bottle of the 1974 Monte Bello Merlot, and it still had lots of life left to it! Located high atop the Santa Cruz Mountains, just 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean, underlain by decomposing limestone and Franciscan rock, this property produces a wine unlike any other. Its low yields (less than two tons per acre) is capable of creating a wine of great significance, depth, complexity and aging potential. The Ridge Cabernets from Monte Bello are coveted by collectors with the pickiest of palates, and sought after by those of us in the industry.

The flagship Monte Bello bottling comes in and goes out in a day, and sells for hundreds of dollars. But this wine… this comes from the same Monte Bello vineyard, but is comprised of ageworthy yet approachable lots so that it may be enjoyed now.

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 92+ POINTS - "Blended with 16% Merlot and bottled at 13.3% alcohol, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is immediately layered and expressive on the nose. Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cocoa nibs and charred wood lead to a vibrant, satiny palate that is fresh and light on its feet. The finish combines juicy, muddled berry flavors with tense, chocolaty tannins of good length. This is delicious already but should improve for the next decade."
