The Puerta del Abra winery stands out amongst its Argentinian cousins. Its home in Balcarce, southwest of Buenos Aires, is a low-altitude region close to the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by an ancient mountain range. This is a long way (including down) from the Andes foothill region of Mendoza! Here, there's a mild maritime climate, with cooling air flowing from the mountains at night. The wines from Puerta del Abra reflect this place with their naturally mellow, refined characters. They have a small production, with 7 varieties growing over 30 acres of land! Harvesting is done by hand, not machine.
"Garnet red wine, with complex notes of blackcurrant and mint, with a touch of olives and ash. On the palate, medium-bodied, it shows its aging in oak and is balanced with an extremely pleasant freshness. A deep and refined wine, which improves vintage after vintage." - Joaquin Hidalgo, VINOUS MEDIA
"Cabernet Franc ripens unhurriedly in Balcarce, achieving good aromatic complexity. This creates a balance between sugar and acidity, producing an authentic wine that requires no adjustments. Aged 24 months in French oak barrels, 60% first fill and 40% second fill.
Bodega Puerta del Abra is a personal project of Jorge Perez Companc. In 2013, he made the decision along with his family to follow his dream of making wines with his own style while exploring a different terroir that is far away from the usual places." - WINERY NOTES
