PAOLO SCAVINO 2020 "BRIC DEL FIASC" BAROLO

Father and son, Lorenzo and Paolo Scavino, started this winery back in 1921, but it was Paolo's son, Enrico, who had a progressive mindset for making a new generation of Barolos. In turn, his daughters, Enrica and Elisa, have continued to make improvements in the vineyards and cellar, and the critical reviews have rewarded their efforts year after year! They gently extract from the skins during fermentation, managing to pull out the finest quality tannins and avoid overly aggressive mouthfeels. They then age the wine for nearly two years in traditional, large oak barrels to not unduly intrude on the beautiful fruit character they worked so hard to endow it with. Over the decades, they've ended up with an extensive range of vineyards with which to work.

JAMES SUCKLING 96 POINTS - "Intense nose with orange rind, savory salted plums, cloves and minerals here with a touch of mussel shell and white pepper. Juicy and powerful with a full body and tightly wound tannins that resolve smoothly into a rich but fine finish. Long and concentrated flavors here. Drinkable now, but better to try from 2027."

JEB DUNNUCK 95 POINTS - "The 2020 Barolo Bric Del Fiasc is jeweled red in color and has a great nose of cherry liqueur, violets, lavender, a touch of blueberry, sweet herbs, sweet earth, and balsamic, but it’s pure and fresh. Medium to full-bodied, it has a plush, velvety texture and lovely richness without feeling heavy, and it offers sweet tannins, notes of tea leaf, and a rounder feel, with a long finish. Drink 2026-2046."
