The 2015 release of Oban Distiller's Edition.
Each distillery in Diageo's Distillers Edition is double matured in a unique wine cask chosen specifically to enhance that distillery's best characteristics.
This release was distilled in 2000 and bottled after finishing in Montilla Fino sherry wood.
Tasting Notes,
Nose: Starts off with the classic Oban honey notes, followed by golden brown sugar, sherry notes, golden raisins, added to the usual apple/pear and grapes of Oban. A hint of smoke is here
Palate: Honey and salted caramel to start. Stewed mixed fruits, Also golden raisins. Cinnamon and nutmeg. There is a bit of pepper here, giving it some kick.
Finish: Medium length. Pear and apple re-surface
