Looking at Nocino della Cristina, it is dark brown to black in color, full and opulent. While the nose leads with mincemeat pie, and apple butter, it only hints toward the wealth of flavor that will follow. This is richness, complexity, comfort and artisanal craft: a joy to be shared. To the taste-bud the walnut is not as green as in some nocino; it is rich flaxseed, nutty, and grainy-- with fleshy walnut fattiness holding it all together. Almost like a pecan pie with the pecans being well
roasted, and pumpkin pie spice thrown in by the handful. To the end, the brown spices and rich nuts keep showing up and showing off, and as an ending, it just hangs. This all natural cordial would be fantastic as a digestive. Serve it with fruit ( pour it onto fruit!). Serve it with coffee (or into coffee!). Serve it with crème brûlée, custard, or flan-- delicious possibilities.
