The Jack Neal and Sons Vineyard Management Company has been tending vines for a prestigious list of clients since 1968. Mark Neal built a winery on Howell Mountain and began making wines from the family vineyards in 1998. The wines are made by winemaker Gove Celio and assistant Kelly Wheat. All vineyard are organically farmed.

This powerful 100% Cabernet expresses its mountain heritage with massive structure that includes ripe black fruit, very deep color and firm structure, accented by the valley floor characteristics of berry fruit and good acidity. What an elongated finish that lingers on the tongue! The long curve of aromas starts with blackberry, cassis, and cherry, and continues with vanilla oak and black licorice. The initial mouthfeel is intense but very velvety, with a sweetness provided by the concentrated fruit. Black cherry, cedar, spice and a hint of leather are carried to the complex finish with a rewarding balance of acid and tannin. We came back to the same bottle the next day and it expressed its longevity showing off more complexity and improved texture: please consider decanting this young wine at its youth. Cellaring for at least another 10 years will bring further rewards.
