The village known as Ushmay, translated and recognized by anthropologists as the village of wild roses. Historically this village was in connection with chief Chululeck dating back to the early 1700’s as documented in Mission sacramental records. A creek and valley at the Juaneno and Luiseno territorial boundary. This area later came to be known as Las Flores. Today, it is located south of the coastal area near San Onofre, California. Over time, the land passed into the hands of individuals such as Pio Pico and Juan Forster through the land grant of Rancho Santa Margarita.
