Former Newport Beach resident Eric Jensen has really made a name for himself up in Paso Robles. His Booker lineup of wines specializes in Rhone varieties (such as Syrah, Grenache, and Petit Manseng) and have become highly sought after for their intensity, complexity, and sheer enjoyment. If you're the type that's interested in scores, Booker is one of the few Paso Robles wineries to have earned 100 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate!
Eric's My Favorite Neighbor label started as an homage to his mentor Stephan Asseo of L'Aventure winery; Stephan would always call and say "Hello Eric, this is Stephan, your favorite neighbor". In the past few years, Eric has crushed it with his My Favorite Neighbor Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that has earned illustrious scores and is a hot seller at our store. But never one to rest on his laurels, Eric has now crafted a partner wine for it...the My Favorite Neighbor Chardonnay!
Sourced from exceptional vineyard sites around Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, and south to Edna Valley, this wine is meticulously cultivated by the farmers that have become Eric's favorite neighbors. With their dedication to the land, Eric and his team are able to craft a world class wine. These old school values are fused with a winemaking approach that is driven by science and cutting-edge technology without concentrates, shortcuts, or compromises...ever! These practices enable the My Favorite Neighbor Team to make wines that consistently stand up to the most notable Chardonnays in the world.
Are we exaggerating?...not at all. In fact, this 2021 vintage just received 97 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, and it sells for less that $50 a bottle! It is customary for California Chardonnays with this score to sell for twice, or even three times this price. But Eric and his crew want to be good neighbors, and bring us all wines that overdeliver for the money. Aged for 8 months in 50% new French oak, the My Favorite Neighbor Chardonnay is affectionately called "MFN Blanc". The wine bursts from the glass with aromas of Meyer lemon, yellow apple, Asian pear, and just a hint of pineapple. Underneath the fruit lies complex base notes of flint, vanilla, nutmeg, and cardamom. Saline notes on the palate are complemented by juicy, mouthwatering acidity and a long mineral finish. Rounding out the palate are flavors of crème fraiche and toffee offering balance and the desire for one more sip. This is a perfect white to be enjoyed year-round.
ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 97 POINTS - "The 2021 Chardonnay is very ripe in style with scents of banana chip, apple pie, jasmine, allspice and brown sugar. The full-bodied palate is packed with ripe, spicy fruits and plenty of refreshing acidity, and it finishes long with a satiny, mouth-coating texture. It's an old-school style reminiscent of Napa that fans of ripe, oaked Chardonnays will enjoy."
