The wines from Luc and Jodie Morlet have gained a feverish following here at Hi-Time. While their Cabernets and Chardonnays have garnered the limelight and were featured on our “Top Wine” lists in the past, this year it is one of their Pinot Noirs that has us salivating! Coming from a small vineyard in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA on the Sonoma Coast, this property sits at 1,100 feet in elevation, and is on just the second ridge from the Pacific Ocean. The vineyard is above the fog line and enjoys long, sunny days, yet temps remain cool throughout most of the growing season. This gives the vines time to produce perfectly mature and ripe grapes, and Luc Morlet sorts the fruit berry-by-berry when they reach the winery, ensuring that only the best make it into the finished wine.

JEB DUNNUCK 97 POINTS - "Just a sensational Pinot Noir, the 2019 Pinot Noir En Famille comes from the Fort Ross-Seaview appellation in the northern part of Sonoma. It offers a lifted, beautiful perfume of ripe black cherries and black raspberries as well as candied violets, orange blossom, and sappy green flowers. More spice and leather notes emerge with time in the glass, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, soft, supple tannins, good acidity, and a great finish. It brings lots of classic Morlet fruit and pleasure while showing a pretty, nuanced, nicely focused style on the palate. It's gorgeous on all accounts."

ANTONIO GALLONI 96 POINTS - "The 2019 Pinot Noir En Famille presents a more exuberant, racy expression of Fort Ross-Seaview. The purity of the fruit is compelling. The En Famille is a blend of two southeast-facing blocks in one of the lower elevation sections of the estate. Succulent red cherry, plum, new leather, mocha and sweet spice fill out the layers in this super-expressive Pinot Noir from Luc and Jodie Morlet."

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 94-96+ POINTS - "The En Famille Pinot Noir comes from a vineyard planted in 1990 to Goldridge soils, right next door to the 'Coteaux Nobles' vineyard in Fort Ross-Seaview. A barrel sample, the 2019 Pinot Noir En Famille displays a medium ruby-purple color and fragrant notes of freshly crushed black cherries, black raspberries and mulberries, plus hints of candied violets, chocolate box and spearmint. The full-bodied, richly fruited palate is packed with juicy black berry flavors, framed by plush tannins and seamless freshness, finishing on a lingering cool-mint note. 375 cases are due to be made."
