ANTONIO GALLONI 94 POINTS - "I was super-impressed with the wines I tasted from Matt Morris this year. Morris focuses mostly on Charbono, one of many varieties in Napa Valley that has become nearly extinct in the era of Cabernet Sauvignon dominance. Charbono produces wines of tremendous natural intensity and richness, qualities that are prominently on display here. Vineyard sites are some of Napa Valley’s best. Benoit Touquette made the 2016s, while Françoise Peschon took over with the 2017s. Readers looking for a change from the tried and true in Napa Valley will want to check these wines out."
"The 2017 Charbono Tofanelli Vineyard is superb. Once again, the Tofanelli Charbono is marked by its captivating bouquet. Raspberry jam, mint, white pepper, licorice, spice and gravel are all beautifully lifted. Deep, powerful and so expressive, the 2017 is flat-out superb. Time in the glass is absolutely essential to allow the breadth of the wine’s energy to reveal itself. All I can say is: What a wine!"
