Mattias Riccitelli makes one of our favorite values with this fresh mountain Malbec from the high altitudes of Lujan de Cuyo. Old vines reach deep into the stony soils to find a balance of air and water intake, and the quality of the fruit is on clear display. He ferments in concrete with some whole grape clusters, and only a small part of the wine is then aged briefly in seasoned French oak barrels. This allows for his firm, flavor-dense Malbec to make this "everyday" bottling more open-knit and vibrant in character. Brambly blackberry and red plum, violet, a hint of dark spice (floral black pepper or incense spice), a lightly stony minerality, and a layer of chalky tannins imbued into the juicy-but-dry body. Try it at a cool 60F with hearty appetizers or a grilled skirt steak!
