Marietta is the poster child for the 40-year overnight success! After decades of making well-made wines that everybody can afford, the critics are finally starting to take notice.
Marietta Cellars is a family owned and operated winery since its inception decades ago. Its name pays homage to Aunt Marietta, to whom founder Chris Bilbro gives credit for taking him under her wings and teaching him the important things in life-love of family, fishing, hard work and how to cook a mean minestrone! These ethics instilled in Chris were the driving factor in him working hard for decades, starting with grapes sourced from local farmers to where they are today. Chris' sons Jake and Scot have taken over the duties of working the 30 acres of vineyards and, as the winery has done for many years, Marietta Cellars continues to produce value-oriented quality wines.
Marietta's Old Vine Red is a California red blend that essentially created the category. With a historic underground following, it is one of the longest lasting and best-known red blends produced today. Predominantly composed of fresh, young Zinfandel, OVR gets its backbone from Petite Sirah with about three years of age in neutral barrel, and its savory component from Syrah with about two years of age in neutral barrel. Occasionally, other varieties like Barbera, Carignan, or Grenache will be blended in for other elements. The goal is always an enjoyable table wine made with integrity that combines pure fruit, a supple mouth feel and a rich, solid structure.

OVR Zin
Recv'd the post about the rating & price on this OVR Old Vine Zin & remember reading that Zin from this vintage was the best in a long time. It is ! This was fruit forward with a bold & long lasting finish. Not too tannic or super high alcohol content. Good pizza/burger/chili drink.
