Tignanello, coming from a single vineyard in the heart of Chianti Classico, is now a historic wine for the Marchesi Antinori estate. It was novel in the early 1970s to modify the region's classic wines by aging the native Sangiovese in new French oak and including a healthy contribution from the French Cabernet varieties (Sauvignon and Franc). This is a wine that will please almost every palate.

ANTONIO GALLONI; VINOUS 96 POINTS - "The 2020 Tignanello is so primary, so intensely fruit-driven, that it almost tastes like a barrel sample. A burst of red Sangiovese fruit opens first, followed by hints of blood orange, cinnamon, spice, dried flowers and mocha develop later. Time in the glass brings out striking dimensions. In 2020, Tignanello is wonderfully sleek and racy, with fine tannins that lie below a core of bright, sculpted fruit. The balance here is just sublime. I can't wait to revisit the 2020 with age."

Antinori’s Tignanello, a wine that defined an era and a region, continues to be innovative and remain relevant and exciting. It was a game-changer for Tuscany in the 1970s and a catalyst for the renaissance of Italian wines in general, and since then Tignanello hasn’t missed a beat. Marchesi Antinori CEO Renzo Cotarella interprets each vintage to gain greater understanding of the Tignanello vineyard.

Slow-oxed 5+ hours and it still evolved in the glass from a dry, slightly tannic Sangiovese to something superlative. Tobacco and cedar plus mint characterized the nose along with floral aspects of violet and lavender. Dark fruit and red fruit merged with black cherry, black currant, plum and chocolate even. Spices raced in a lingering licorice, smoke and pepper finish. While not the ideal year, Antinori made a really impressive wine worthy of the name!
