First introduced in 1983 as part of a marketing campaign aimed at anyone celebrating a 25th anniversary, the Macallan Anniversary Malt 25 year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a cornerstone collectible and one of the key reasons this illustrious distillery is so popular around the world.
Produced in curated quantities and released semi-regularly, this extraordinary single malt continues to rise in value and desirability. Earlier releases of Macallan Anniversary Malt are housed in a custom wooden box with either straw or wooden inserts, while vintages spanning from 2002 to 2004 were offered in deep red boxes.
Further to this, leather straps on the wooden boxes are said to be an indication that a particular vintage was an American import exclusive.
Elusive, collectible, and beloved by avid Macallan enthusiasts, the Macallan Anniversary Malt 25 Year Single Malt was discontinued after 2004 and is an undeniable must-have investment whisky suitable for even the most discerning, ultra-premium collections.
Tasting Notes,
Nose: well, it's one of these old Macallans that reek of Havana cigars - unlit of course. No sweet sherry here and no Christmas cake, we're rather on old walnuts, vin jaune, manzanilla (and big time!), old leather jacket and then various precious woods and the polishes that come with them. Oh, and there IS a little wood smoke as well. In short, a wonderfully dry and almost leafy nose.
Palate: everything comes at the same time, which is quite unusual with these old whiskies. Black raisins, coffee, old cognac (rancio), tobacco, a little tar, blackcurrant liqueur and, should l add of course, the trademark Seville oranges. Some heather honey as well but then it just wouldn't change.
Finish:rmore on the orangey side in the aftertaste. Maybe more chocolate as well.
