"Tre di Tre" from Lupo Meraviglia celebrates three vines, three cousins, three generations. The three grape varietals that comprise the wine are Negroamaro, Aglianico and Primitivo. Negroamaro produces wines very rich in color, combining perfume with an earthy bitterness. Aglianico is considered (along with Sangiovese and Nebbiolo) one of the greatest Italian varietals. Wines made from this grape are usually full-bodied with firm tannins and high acidity, with plenty of fruit and nuance to keep balance (plum, chocolate). Primitivo, also known as Zinfandel, brings ripe fruits (from raspberry to blackberry) with additional components adding depth and complexity (anise, pepper). The blending of the three together can be quite magical as far as the taste buds go-- and you can almost call "Tre di Tre" Merlin! The family has excelled in their efforts-- this is not the first time we have featured "Tre di Tre" as it offers a ton of value and flavor for the price.
The nose is filled with earthiness, red and black fruits and jam. Secondary nosings bring up lovely notes of mixed florals (particularly violets). Tasting showcases rich, forward fruits (plum, blackberry) that are contained within excellent structure: tannins, that are light but present, and acidity, that keeps the primary fruits from becoming overpowering. The persistent finish adds spicy wood hints and a touch of earth to the mixed red and dark fruits. This is a great warm-weather red that will elevate any 'late summer / early fall' barbecue affairs (this pairs wonderfully with grilled red meats!)
LUCA MORONI 99 POINTS - "Sensations: its exceptional extractive might shines in the remote depths of its purple-black. A mantle of essential pulp, with exceptionally harmonious palatal ripeness. With its softness it is able to perfectly balance its powerful acid-tannic structure. And what clarity the aromas have: unoxidated and spicy brilliance of blackberry. An archetypal wine, from the highest applied viticulture and oenolgy: Chapeau."
