The Lisini estate lies amongst the elevated, wooded hills in the Sant'Angelo in Colle area, in the southwest of Montalcino. Coupled with the warm Mediterranean airflow up the valley to the south, their wines are warm-toned and rounded without losing a vibrant acidity. Lisini's Rosso di Montalcino is a fresher-toned and more mid-weight expression of their Brunello. That makes it more enjoyable as an easier-drinking, everyday red. Let this open up in the glass, or just decant the bottle and pair with some savory bites!
"Dark ruby/magenta, the 2021 Rosso Di Montalcino needs some air to open and is highly aromatic with notes of black raspberries, candied violets, and sweet balsamic herbs. Juicy and primary, it has good freshness and is a quaffable red that retains good freshness and a rounded mouthfeel with fine tannins. A crowd-pleaser of a wine with loads of versatility, it’s a great introduction to Sangiovese to have over the next 3-4 years." - Audrey Frick, JEB DUNNUCK.COM
"The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino opens with an herbal tinge that quickly blows off to reveal a blend of woodland berries, crushed rocks and sweet smoke. This is remarkably fresh and energetic, with masses of ripe, mineral-inflected red fruits and spice propelled by zesty acidity. It finishes staining and long, leaving a bitter tinge, all refreshed by a bump of residual acidity." - Eric Guido, VINOUS MEDIA
WINEMAKER NOTES - "100% Sangiovese from the estate’s massal selection. The majority of Lisini’s vineyards are classified to produce Brunello, but they also have seven hectares of vineyards classified to the production of Rosso di Montalcino. Vineyards range in elevation from 300 to 350 meters above sea level. Vinification is traditional, in glass-lined cement tanks with skin contact for 20-26 days. The wine is then transferred to 20-52 hectoliter casks for 12 months."
