History,
The Leopold Bros 8-year-old cask strength Bourbon is not just the oldest whiskey the company has released in their history - it's also the highest in proof.
The distillery fills all of their barrels at 50% ABV and, over the course of just a few years in their earthen-floor, dunnage-style warehouse, they don't see much fluctuation in proof.
However, after 8 years of steady maturation, the distillery is starting to see more evaporation, leading to an increase in alcohol percentage, which makes this cask strength release quite an anomaly.
This higher proof bourbon led the Master Distiller to wonder what would happen if they threw it into used Three Chamber Rye whiskey barrels for a few extra months. It turns out that extra maturation was just what this whiskey needed.
Tasting Notes,
Nose: On the nose of this unique whiskey, we get sweet gains with graham crackers and honey.
Palate: On the palate we see a combination of candied apricot and orange marmalade which make this bourbon truly incredible.
Finish: The finish continues with its candied apricot but couples with pear, vanilla and lavender.
