80% Nebbiolo, 10% Croatina, 10% Vespolina
This is an ode to the traditional wines of subalpine Italy! Here, the firmly-structured Nebbiolo is blended with its traditional partners Croatina (relatively more fruity and darker-toned) and Vespolina (a softer-textured relative of Nebbiolo). The result is a mid-bodied wine that's complex aromatically and texturally, with a vibrant, firm structure of lifted acidity and tannic grounding.
VINOUS 95 POINTS - "The 2016 Bramaterra is fabulous. Deep and exquisitely layered, the 2016 possesses stunning depth and textural nuance to burn. Rose petal, lavender, red/purplish fruit, cedar, tobacco and licorice all build in the glass. The 2016 is a wine of power, structure and dimension." Drinking Window: Now-2036 -Antonio Galloni
The soils here are acidic sands and rocks of volcanic origin, which combine with the cooler, rainier climate to make distinctive expressions of Nebbiolo that can be intensely-structured and austere in youth. "...maceration and fermentation in open Grenier oak vats. The young wine will then be matured for 18 month in a combination of used barrique barrels as well as large Stockinger oak barrels. The Bramaterra is finally kept on bottle for another 24 month before being released to market." -WINERY NOTES
