This is the calling card bottling from Le Macchiole, their "purest and most unadulterated expression of Bolgheri." Compared with their famous flagship bottlings, this is built for drinkability with an eased-up concentration and structure, and with less intrusive aging vessels like previously-used French oak barrels and concrete. Also, while the flagship bottlings focus on single grape varieties, this is a mix of their Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, each variety adding to the complexity and balance of the wine.

JAMES SUCKLING 94 POINTS - "This is really polished and gentle, with ultra-fine tannins that run the length of the wine. It's medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a long and expressive finish of red fruit, stone and thyme. Drink or hold."

WINE SPECTATOR 91 POINTS - "A ripe, juicy version, boasting crunchy cherry, blackberry and spice flavors. This leans to the tannic side, with a mouthwatering, moderately long finish. Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2030."

The winery was founded by Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli in the early 1980s while Bolgheri was still a young wine region on the international stage. Today it's one of the benchmark wineries for the region and for Tuscany overall. This special region on the sunny, hot Mediterranean coast has the moderate breezes and milder temperatures that make for boldly expressive, ripely succulent - even opulent - reds that are still well-balanced and lively. Practicing organic and biodynamic farming.
