This shows the balanced warmth of the 2018 growing season and the generous-but-fresh style of the famous Panzano region: a moderately deep, garnet hue; a richly vinous perfume of ripe dark cherry and red plum cordial, balsam accents and fresh herbal hints; well-meshed warm, earthy clay accents; juicy, full-bodied, but expansive and complex in the mouth. Finely-woven large-grained tannins and some stony firmness in the flavors pulls the generous fruit back together into the finish. Years of life left on this one, but already a delight with a little time in the glass.
ANTONIO GALLONI; VINOUS 95 POINTS - 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Aluigi Campo ai Peri is a terrific follow up to the stellar 2016. Rich, deep and explosive, the 2018 Aluigi saturates the palate with dark fruit, leather, tobacco, spice, menthol and espresso notes. This ample, full-bodied Panzano Gran Selezione hits all the right notes. The marriage of elegance and pure power is compelling."
Le Cinciole's vineyards are on the eastern, Chianti Mountain-facing side of the Panzano region; they're moderately high in altitude, with "cooler" southeastern aspects, with soils formed by weathered calcareous sandstone (Pietraforte). This area is known for wines with a relatively concentrated, freshly-toned fruit character and compact, mineral-like tannic structure. Stopping short of opulence, the wines are imbued with a great sense of elegance and lifting, inner vibrancy.
"As always, the wines here stand out for a striking sense of translucency that is achieved through biodynamic farming, minimalist winemaking and patience. Vinification is done in cement, while aging takes place in a mix of casks and smaller neutral French oak barrels." - Antonio Galloni
