This is an excellent Champagne with heaps of pizzazz that could only come from the mind of Curtis Jackson better known as 50 Cent. The Queens (he now lives in Connecticut) rapper, songwriter and entrepreneur has long sought to create a lineup of special "bubs for da club" as a direct challenge to Jay Z's Ace of Spades bottlings. Jackson spent years scouting the Champagne region for a producer who could furnish the quality befitting the luxury Champagnes he was seeking to fashion. Finally, he discovered and partnered with Reims-based Champagne Castelnau and the Le Chemin du Roi ("The King's Path") brand was born. As with the Ace of Spades bottles the “bling quotient” of Le Cemin du Roi is through the roof. The presentation features a metallic silver bottle that looks magical when frosted. The ensemble is completed by a "king's gambit" comprised of an oversized, gold-plated king chess piece seamlessly fused to the glass.

While the packaging is decidedly flamboyant the bubbly inside is classically configured and displays the length and finesses of a true tete de cuvee. Here is a skillful blend of 60% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir, and 20% Pinot Meunier from a rigorous selection of the best grapes drawn from Castelnau's extensive vineyard holdings throughout the Champagne appellation. Following a hand harvest, the grapes were pressed immediately in press houses situated in the field. Only the gentle first press juice was used. After pressing, blending and bottling, the wine was aged for over four years on the lees to silken and balance the crisp acidity and tangy play of stone and citrus fruits. The result is a subtle but brilliant Champagne that recently earned a Gold Medal at the 2020 San Diego Wine & Spirits Challenge. Thanks to a special Covid era purchase we are able to offer this rare and unique Champagne experience for a price that is fifty dollars under the market.
