Timorasso is a particularly old variety native to Piedmont. Thanks to a couple of passionate grower/winemakers, it's been brought back from near extinction. It's an age-worthy variety, and in many bottlings it's like a flower bud that opens over years of aging. In line with their house style, La Spinetta makes theirs in a way that's expressive and charming in its youth: floral (like orange blossom), a touch "waxy," but backed by juicy stone fruits like apricot, as well as pear or apple; there's also an aromatic hint of the 'petrol' that's prevalent in Riesling. Mid-bodied with a bright acidity, but texturally enveloping, this is like Piedmontese springtime in a glass!
JAMES SUCKLING 92 POINTS - "I like the notes of fresh papayas and pears on the nose, alongside crushed almonds and chamomile. It’s full-bodied but bright, with mineral undertones to the fresh fruit and a fleshy texture. From organically grown grapes. Drink now."
VINOUS 92 POINTS - "The 2023 Timorasso is an attractive, expressive white from La Spinetta. Proprietor Giorgio Rivetti and his team crafted a Timorasso endowed with generous tropical fruit, spice and floral notes. Soft contours, unusual for Timorasso, add immediacy. This is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. " - Antinori Galloni
This was fermented in stainless steel and aged 7 months on the fine lees before light filtering and bottling.
