History,
George T. Stagg Bourbon (Fall 2019) is an uncut, unfiltered Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and is one of the five bottlings in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection released each fall. Due to many of the barrels having matured on the lower levels of the warehouses, this year's edition is the lowest proof release of Stagg to date. However, it is still a healthy 116.9 proof.
The 2019 edition of George T Stagg is a 15 year old bourbon bottled at 116.9 proof.
Tasting Notes,
Nose: Lush chocolate, sweet cinnamon bark, and subtle aged oak dance out of the glass. Exploring deeper, they’re joined with Mexican vanilla beans and light soft caramel candy. The lower proof this year allows the scents to stand out without the typical in-your-face punch that is often found with higher proof releases. George T. Stagg usually delivers one of the more outstanding aroma-filled noses in the series, and this year is no exception.
Palate: The chocolate and sweet cinnamon bark carry over from the nose and overpower any additional flavors that may otherwise be present. It’s rich, spicy, and delivers an impactful yet manageable heat that continues to crescendo the longer you roll it around in your mouth.
Finish: A quick hit of sweetness to start the finish is immediately replaced by aged oak, leather, and a dose of pepper spice. The finish is long lasting as the oak and leather cling to your mouth with a very subtle muted vanilla note mixed in
