This new bottling from the benchmark Fontodi estate showcases the revived, terraced vineyards high up on the ridge above the famous "Conca d'Oro" (Golden Shell) of Panzano. It displays a tension between the dark-fruited power and structure of the area with the marked finesse brought out by the vineyard's altitude and lessened exposure to the sun. Aging in small French oak barrels (barrique) contributes to the darker tones in the color and flavors, and a richness in texture. It's another wine to hold onto for a couple years or more. In the near-term, decant for several hours and serve with hearty Tuscan-inspired cuisine like a rare porterhouse steak or slow-braised wild boar ragu'!
