Flor de Caña is a family-owned company based in Nicaragua that has won numerous awards, including No. 1 Rum Producer in the World from the International Wine and Spirit Competition, No. 1 Rum on the Planet from The Huffington Post and 2017 Best Rum of the Year from the International Rum Conference in Madrid.
Flor de Caña rums are born and aged at the base of the San Cristobal volcano, which is one of the most active volcanoes in Latin America. The rums are naturally-aged in small white oak bourbon barrels and then sealed with plantain leaves, and they are also distilled five times with 100% renewable energy. Due to Nicaragua’s tropical climate, Flor de Caña rums mature at a higher temperature and humidity level than most other spirits, such as cognac and whiskey, while the close proximity to the San Cristobal volcano plays a key role in the high evaporation rate of the rum, which results in a high interaction between the barrel and the rum.
