FINCA DECERO 2017 PETIT VERDOT, REMOLINOS VINEYARD

Petit Verdot from Argentina is its own animal, and Decero clearly proves that. While mostly used in blending in Bordeaux, the chief area PV historically has been used, it does much better in single varietal bottlings in the New World. Decero's nose is intriguing with layers of meatiness, forest floor and spice blending and intertwining with olfactory offerings of leather, black tea, boeuf reduction and dark florals. The palate, a "big boy" blend of enticing boysenberry fruit, black tea, assorted herbals and a touch of violets, all enwrapped in layers of tannic goodness, is clearly in harmony with all parts singing beautifully together. The fact we thought it was singing about rib-eye steaks perhaps betrays which mealtime it was near while tasting, but the pairing would really kill it.
