Fess Parker was a man of the wilderness. His portrayal of frontiersmen Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone during the 1950s and 60s garnered him a legion of adoring fans spanning many generations. And today, his legacy lives on; not only in reruns, but in the high-scoring wines produced from his family's estate. Today, we focus on his 95-points Petite Sirah!
When Fess Parker purchased the 714-acre Foxen Canyon Ranch in 1988, his dream was to start a family business that future generations would want to be a part of, expand upon and ultimately make their own. Fess passed away in 2010 but the businesses he founded remain in good hands with second and third generation family members stepping up and taking the reins.
Eli Parker and his sister Ashley Parker Snider are now the stewards of their father's vision for the family portfolio of businesses. While the Fess Parker wines focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Epiphany was founded by Eli Parker in 2000 as a way for him to expand on his passion for Rhone varietals, such as Syrah, Viognier, and Petite Sirah. The winemaking torch was passed to Blair Fox in 2007, but crafting interesting wines of exquisite quality is still the sole reason for the label's existence. This bottling comes from the family's Home Ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley, on a parcel called Rodney's Vineyard. Rodney's Vineyard is SIP Certified - Sustainability in Practice.
Aged 21 months in French oak, of which 17% is new, respected critic Antonio Galloni rated this an incredible 95-points, and states this "opulent, full throttle Petite is the real deal"! Known and loved for its extraordinary inky color, concentrated flavors and full-bodied structure, Petite Sirah has become a staple in the Epiphany lineup. The nose reveals enticing aromas of blackberries, plums, and black currants, intermingled with hints of cracked black pepper, violets, and a touch of mocha. Rich and velvety, this Petite Sirah delivers complex layers of black fruits, spice, dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla on the palate, culminating in a long, persistent finish.
ANTONIO GALLONI 95 POINTS - "The 2020 Petite Sirah is fabulous. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, licorice, spice, menthol and new leather infuse the 2020 with notable depth and textural richness. The team at Fess Parker has done an exceptional job in taming the tannins. This opulent, full throttle Petite is the real deal."
