From the winery: 20+ year old Syrah Clone Noir farmed biodynamically 1.2 miles from the ocean. Barely two barrels produced from vines yielding a half ton of grapes per acre on sandstone. Black as a moonless night, weighty in the glass, blackberry, plum, iodine, wood-fired meats. Neutral French Oak, alcohol 13.6%, unfined, unfiltered. Jeb Dunnuck: “It reminds me of a good Saint Joseph with its juicy, cooler climate-like style.”
ANTONIO GALLONI'S VINOUS MEDIA 93+ POINTS - "A beguiling blend of white pepper, sage, wet stone, licorice and black currants makes the 2022 Syrah Bassi Vineyard impossible to ignore. This sweeps across the palate, silky-smooth yet lifted in feel, with a blend of tart wild berry fruits and herbal tones that give way to a staining of salty minerality. Crisp and decidedly savory, the 2022 leaves a caking of fine tannins and a pleasantly bitter tinge that pinches at the cheeks as hints of tart blackberry slowly fade. The Bassi Vineyard shows the animalistic side of Syrah while maintaining a solid core of vividly ripe fruit. Nicely done."
