100% Cesanese d'Affile
The Frascati region, in the Castelli Romani hills outside Rome, produces Lazio's most well-known wines. But other regions in Lazio also deserve attention, as Damiano Ciolli's compelling wines show! Although he's only 33 years old, he's possibly the greatest interpreter of Cesanese, the red variety that's local to eastern Lazio.
This Cesanese is medium-bodied, with a concentrated savory-fruity tension: it's soft mulberry and cherry fruit is shaded by classic Italian amaro herbs, along with subtle floral and spice hints, finishing dryly. This is a great partner with savory Roman dishes like braised oxtail pasta, cured meats or mushrooms and lentils.
"Each block is fermented separately in concrete vats by natural fermentation and the maceration length is about 10 days. Silene is aged in concrete vats for no less than 1 year, after which is blended and ready to be bottled." - WINERY NOTES
