Alejandro Fernandez, well-known as the owner/winemaker for Pesquera, has scored a home run with this delicious Tempranillo. It began when he discovered an abandoned hillside on the banks of the River Duero in the mid-1980s that seemed to bring together the ideal conditions to become one of the best vineyards of the region. It had a gentle south-facing slope that ended in the river and different soils composed of gravel, clay and gypsum that promised to produce the nuances needed to create complex wines from Tempranillo. The results of his discovery speak from the bottle and more than a few critics have heard the call.
WINE ENTHUSIAST 93 POINTS - "Notes of brown baking spices and warm vanilla draw you into the glass. There are flavors of cassis, black raspberry and red currant with silky tannins and just a touch of freshly sliced fennel bulb in the finish." — Mike DeSimone Aged at least 1 year in American oak barrels.
JAMES SUCKLING 92 POINTS - "Oak spices, hazelnuts and mocha to the strawberries and red plums. Juicy and expressive on the palate with a medium to full body rounded by firm tannins. Fluid, creamy and long. Drink or hold."
