Riva di Ponente translates to 'steep bank where the sun sets.' Grapes are sourced from a 1.4 acre vineyard block with full western exposure. This is one of Cimarossa's warmest blocks due to the afternoon sun. The clusters are hand picked and this single vineyard wine is aged for 22 months in French Oak, 50% of which is new.
Visually Riva di Ponente displays a saturated dark plum color. The nose fills with aromas of vanilla bean, maple syrup, and very dark chocolate along with vine-ripened blackberry and boysenberry. The palate continues with the aforementioned descriptors and builds with layers of ripe plum, hints of graham cracker, and blackberry pie. The impressive concentration and generous, ret rich and silky tannins are well worth the low yield in the vineyard. A warm and lingering finish quintessentially portrays what we have come to expect from the afternoon, sun-kissed blocks that comprise the Ponente label.
