Strong ruby, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the edge. Red cherry garnished with clear spiciness from some Cabernet Franc, smoky, some gunpowder, dark mineral notes. NATURAL WINE. Winemaker Christian Tschida has the great fortune to cultivate 10-hectares of old vines that have been with his family for 4 generations, since the 19th century. This is an elegant Cabernet Franc, with a nose of cassis, wild herbs and a dark earthy note. This wine is Medium bodied, with soft, but firm, structure. Dark ruby fruit that is equal parts juicy, savory, vibrant, tart and spicy. On the palate are notes of blueberry and cherry. Grapes are hand harvested and crushed by foot. The juice ferments in large barrels with indigenous yeast and no racking. It spends about a year aging in 500 and 1200-liter barrels and is bottled without fining or filtering and no addition of sulfur. This 2022 vintage of Kapitel 1 is 100% Cabernet Franc, coming from gravel and limestone soils.
