"This is a classic, impeccably made Haut-Médoc" - Jeb Dunnuck
"A linear and polished young red with compact, silky tannins that are polished and beautiful" - James Suckling
"It has beautiful mid-palate depth, ripe, building tannins, and a great finish" - Jeb Dunnuck
It's no secret that the 2020 vintage in Bordeaux produced a bevy of outstanding wines. One of the best things about such a vintage is that quality is apparent at all price levels. Case in point is Chateau Beaumont from the Haut Medoc appellation, which clearly benefitted from the exemplary growing season. This shows expressive aromatics and perfectly ripened fruit wrapped in silky tannins.
James Suckling gave this wine a score of 92 Points calling it, "polished and beautiful." Jeb Dunnuck tasted this wine twice and scored it 91 Points noting its "beautiful mid-palate depth, ripe, building tannins, and a great finish."
Carved out between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde Estuary, the Medoc or the "Land in the middle" according to the etymology is the home of Chateau Beaumont. In 1772, the estate became the property of Henri Labarthe, who cleared it and prepared it for growing vines. The property changed hands and in 1986 Château Beaumont began anew as the owner of Château Beychevelle purchased the estate and made improvements to the vineyards and the cellar.
The vineyard is planted to 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The selection of the finest grapes from the estate is ensured with optical sorting. Finally, the wine is aged 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, one-third of them new.
The result is a delicious Bordeaux which completely overdelivers. We love the pure, focused dark-fruited character of this wine. This is limited in supply, when it's gone, it's gone!
JAMES SUCKLING 92-93 POINTS - "A linear and polished young red with compact, silky tannins that are polished and beautiful. Lots of blackberry, blackcurrant, mushroom and spice character. Very solid wine from here."
JEB DUNNUCK 91 POINTS - "The 2020 Château Beaumont is rock solid, with a great nose of ripe red and black fruits, spicy oak, and spring flowers. Medium-bodied, It has the pure, focused, structured style of the vintage as well as a great mid-palate and the balance to evolve for 10-12 years or more."
"Coming from a beautiful château in the Haut-Médoc, the 2020 Château Beaumont sports a deep purple hue as well as solid red and black fruits interwoven with lots of tobacco, crushed stone, and graphite-like aromas and flavors. Playing in the medium-bodied portion of the spectrum, it has beautiful mid-palate depth, ripe, building tannins, and a great finish. It will drink well on release yet benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and shine for over a decade. This is a classic, impeccably made Haut-Médoc."
