For over 4 centuries, the Chartreuse has written a rich history. It all began in 1605 with the delivery of a manuscript by François Hannibal d'Estrées. The Carthusian monks dedicated over 150 years of research to uncover the secret of this manuscript and establish the recipe for the Élixir Végétal in 1764. In the 19th century, they developed a new "Élixir de Table", thus giving birth to the Chartreuse Verte and the Chartreuse Jaune in 1840. Since then, the Carthusian Fathers have preserved and passed on their precious know-how. Today, these ancestral recipes constitute the products of the Chartreuse.
