Caparsa makes traditonally-styled wines from a cooler area of Chianti, near the town of Radda. By aging in concrete rather than oak, more of the finessed qualities that the region is known for are preserved. After spending nearly three years mellowing before bottling, the lifting fruit and floral notes are embedded deeply into its earthy, savory tones. The fine, crunchy tannic structure that's natural to the area is caressing without being over-polished. This is an exceptional red, and an example of why Chianti Classico's worldwide fame is well deserved.
DECANTER 95 POINTS - "Owner Paolo Cianferoni believes that Sangiovese from the cool sector of Radda needs plenty of ageing before release. This unoaked 2020 annata was refined exclusively in concrete vats and bottled in October 2023. Clean and nuanced, it slowly ekes out wild raspberry, black tea, dusty earth and orange peel, becoming more youthful and focused as it sits in the glass. The palate is tactile and savoury; chalky tannins wield their grip but dissolve gracefully with a pleasantly powdery sensation. Concentrated citrussy acidity emerges with a burst of florals on the finish."
