DECANTER 94 POINTS - "A Viognier of immediate impact and appeal, from the 1994-planted By Farr vineyard plus a site of younger vines. It’s perfumed, fresh and detailed with mineral cut through a fleshy and intense profile. Aromas of apple, apricot, peach and ginger spice are held tensile by pithy minerals and white florals. There’s a burst of apricot, ginger and peach through the mid-palate before being pulled into linear focus for a long mineral and citrus-drenched finish. Impeccable balance of tension and weight."
"Blend of fruit from two vineyards. The first is the original house block, planted in 1994, which is friable red soil over limestone leading to sandstone—similar soils to the Sangreal pinot noir and By Farr chardonnay. The second vineyard is a younger planting of unknown clones in red ironstone soil. Viognier is a difficult variety to manage as it has a tendency to grow horizontally rather than vertically, needs a lot of water and can become sunburnt very easily. Because of this, they pick earlier to retain its natural acidity, creating a more delicate and refined wine." - WINERY NOTES
