We've been buying and enjoying the wines from Bessin-Tremblay for years. They certainly possess the characteristics Chablis is famous for with its mouthwatering orchard fruits and bright minerality. What they also possess is a beautiful tactile presence on the palate which leads to a lingering and satisfying finish.
This textural presence separates them from the pack and elevates them into a tier of elite producers from Chablis which includes the likes of Raveneau and Dauvissat. Happily, the wines of Bessin-Tremblay remain much less pricey than their more famous neighbors-for now...
We have enjoyed numerous bottles from their brilliant 2022 vintage and both William Kelley and his new reviewer for the Wine Advocate, Kristaps Karklins remain huge fans of this domaine.
This old vine Chablis Vieilles Vignes exceeds its humble appellation and is one to grab before it disappears.
Romain and Antoine Bessin have built upon the excellent work of their father, Jean-Claude. Romain tends to the vineyards using organic treatments and leading the team which hand-harvests the grapes. His brother, Antoine has his father's touch in the cellar and avoids the use of new oak barrels to preserve the wine's freshness.
The Wine Advocate sums it up perfectly - "These wines offer everything one seeks in great Chablis."
These brilliant high scoring white Burgundies belong in your cellar and in your glass!
WINE ADVOCATE 91+ POINTS - "Issuing from 35- to 80-year-old vines, the 2022 Chablis Vieilles Vignes has turned out very well. Offering notes of peach, green apple and lemon zest, it’s medium-bodied, bright and laden with racy acidity and a precise finish. Antoine Bessin remarks that the slowing down of maturity that resulted from hydric stress produced rather fresh wines with higher acidity. It is vinified entirely in stainless steel."
