Ricasoli's three single-vineyard Gran Selezioni are extremely elegant, firm and linear renditions of Chianti Classico. The Ceni vineyard area is on ancient river deposits in the warmest part of Gaiole. The vines still finish ripening a bit later than some of its neighbors and the wine keeps the firm character of Ricasoli's other bottlings. It comes off as the slightly more supple of the trio, with more warming and spiced, with some riper fruit tones through the finish, but that driving core keeps it moving.
WINE SPECTATOR 96 POINTS - "A beam of acidity cuts through this scintillating red, lending energy and driving its cherry, strawberry, mineral and spice flavors. Both ripe and supple, this firms up while playing out on the long and lively finish. All of the elements add up to great potential in 5–7 years. 916 cases made, 500 cases imported."
