Baricci is a historical producer for the Montalcino region, founded in 1955 when Nello Baricci purchased the eastern part of the famous Montosoli hill north of the town. This is considered to be one of the top single vineyard sites ('grand cru') for Brunello, and all of Baricci's wines are sourced from it. Nello's grandsons, Frederico & Francesco carry on the tradition today.
Montosoli's vineyards are planted at relatively high altitudes in a cooler & wetter part of Montalcino, and with its calcareous stony soils, tends to make more elegant, aromatic, and mineral-driven Brunellos.
